Welding materials are called consumables used in welding.
Welding electrodes and wires provide a supply of electric power to the welding area for heating. Melt coated electrodes, powder activated and wire shield arc welding flux contains special components that may be designed to protect the metal from the air, maintaining stability of the welding process, obtaining the desired chemical composition of the weld metal, etc. Welding rod is introduced into the weld seam during welding.
Welding materials can perform the following functions:
Provision of the necessary geometrical dimensions of the weld
Obtaining the weld metal with the desired chemical composition and properties
To protect the molten metal from the effects of air - gas, slag or gas and welding slag
To ensure the stability of the welding process
Removal of contaminants from the weld metal
